Alienware’s “Allpowerful” notebook… not so new.

UPDATE: go to the M17x Refresh notebook pics and specs here.
I was digging and talked with a few AW folks/sources… which confirmed my suspicions.
*** WARNING: Spoiler Alert ***
I am confident (90% sure now) that the “new” [loosely speaking] notebook will be:
- based off the exclusively Quanta designed chassis of the M17X* (not to be mistaken with the M17 which is a re-branded Arima W840)
- supporting Centrino 2 (Montevina) platform (quad-core CPU support and DDR3).. so should top out with QX9300 and 8GB
- supporting “Binary GFX” and support for new dual Nvidia or ATI cards… probably Nvidia GTX 280M / ATI HD 4870
- …. supposedly the system is to be able to have support for both SLI and Crossfire (cannot confirm yet)
* Note: I had suspicions that it would be the “M17x refresh” since the original M17x is:
- designed manufactured by Dell’s main ODM….. Quanta.
- the system design is still viable since it did not have any issues…. other than poor sales from being too overpriced for old technology
- going to save Dell/Alienware money to not re-design the entire system from scratch.
- just an updated motherboard is all that is needed to bring the system up to par to compete…. thats a lot of money saved for the company
The last detail is the most interesting….
This “M17x refresh” chassis might be re-modded (lights and design) to become a part of the .Dell line of gaming notebooks… which would solidify the connection between .Dell and Alienware.
So the final release might have a Dell insignia on the AW M17x-type chassis.
As for pics (which cannot be released since legal consequences might be incurred)…. I am confident that you will find it to look near identical to the M17x chassis, inside and out.
And for the rumors….
- not Core i7…. definitely since the next mobile Intel platform has not even been launched yet.
- not a Clevo re-brand (since AW wont be able to compete in pricing with other vendors)
- nothing really groundbreaking to bring to the table.. except the SLI/Crossfire support if it is confirmed.
Lastly, there are signs of a 15″ refresh (of probably the M15x) as well… but no confirmations.
Game on People,
-Gophn
P.S. I do not expect this system to be on my “bang for the buck” high-end gaming list… since it will be an exclusive model… meaning that it will have a higher/premium price (which is what niche marketing is all about)

any ideas for pricing? i realize it will probably be in the thousands but its nice to dread =D
3 yearss agothe pricing will probably be quite overpriced if Alienware is going to have this model exclusive to them.
3 yearss agodo u know if they are releasing on 13 days or just announcing?
3 yearss agojust announcing… mainly.
but from what I predict, since its current technology, the system will ship out pretty quick.
3 yearss agoThanks for the info
Cleared up alot of the rumors flying around
An M15x refresh you say

3 yearss agoInteresting to see how that goes, and the sort of build quality it has
I am interested in the pricing of this also, since I plan on getting a new rig soon.
3 yearss agoyeah im planning to get one too but not AW they are way too expensive
since their are releasing this new laptop some ppl will sell their old one so im expecting to get a good deal
3 yearss agoI originally was going to purchase a Dell 1730 when they dropped the prices the other day. But a post I saw from Grophn helped changed my mind. 1730 has a good price, good video card, and a nice screen. After that specs go south as far as upgradeability. I’ve been eyeing up the AW 17′s for a while, along with the new Sager and D900F. Then I saw where the Allpowerful was coming out.
Although a loaded M17 for less $$ is very tempting…
3 yearss agoFor the current price after the drop the M17 is very tempting. But for a few dollars more I could get a Sager 9280 or D900F.
Hopefully the Allpowerful will be comparative in price and specs to the Sager or D900F.
For now I think I’ll wait and see the Allpowerful. If I can keep my price under $2500 I’ll be happy.
if u want to spend that much just get the asus W90-x1 …. im pretty sure u will be getting one of the most powerful laptop in the market right now
3 yearss ago“So the final release might have a Dell insignia on the AW M17x-type chassis.”
-that would suck
