Welcome to Gophn’s Black Friday 2009 Headquarters.

Alright folks, that time of the year has come again… I am talking about Black Friday.

This year (2009), Black Friday will fall on November 27.

As you know, I am extremely frugal (cheap) and therefore I know my deals and will show you how to take advantage of this great day of deals.

I will be keeping this page as up to date as possible.

My tips to shopping smart for Black Friday:

(You will never need to wait in line again)

SHOPPING SMART: you always see people wait in lines during this day
… but you do not have to in order to insure that you get the deal.

All you have to do is:
1) Look/research for the exact item (model # & product #) that you want to purchase
2) 2 to 5 days before Black Friday (Nov 27)…. Go and buy it (preferably on a credit card/store card) at full price… do not worry
3) DO NOT OPEN THE ITEM (it will give you leverage later), and hang onto the receipt
…… explanation: you are literally saving an item for yourself by doing this.
4) On the day of Black Friday*, you can now walk in any time you want (with your receipt and unopened product) and go straight to the cashier/customer service… no need to wait in line (just tell them you want to return/exchange something)
5) (At the Cashier) Ask for a price adjustment (to refund/credit back the price difference from what you paid to the Black Friday price)
6) Thats it. You just got your item for a great price and did not have to stay in line for an understocked item (in most cases)

* Notes (on Black Friday):
• if your deal is a “Doorbuster”, you should show up on Black Friday within the specific hours when that particular deal is running.
• if your salesperson is giving you any problems, its not a big deal since you did not open the item, so you can just say “Well, I have not opened it yet, so why don’t we do do a return & exchange for me to get that price”
…. then they will see how smart you are and will just do the price adjustment. (or ask for the manager, which will do the same for you)
…. if they still refuse to not give you a price adjustment, just return the item to get a full refund.
…. you might come off looking like a smart-ass, but who cares.

There you have it, my secret on getting the best deals without having to wake up early.

I have been doing this for over 4 years, it has never failed.

hey gophn, i’ve a question.
im planning to buy a netbook from office max, but they dont carry it in the store.
they said if i come to the store, and fill out an order form, they can order one to the store, so i can pick it up later.
they also said i can return/refund it through the store too.

but the problem is, when it’s thanksgiving, what if they dont have door buster prices for that office max because they dont carry any other netbooks that i bought?
do you know what i’m saying?

Yeah I know what you mean.

I believe that all OfficeMax locations will have to adhere to the same nation-wide Black Friday promotions.

So it wont hurt if you buy it from them now, don’t open it, then bring it back with receipt during the Black Friday hours… they should be able to do a price adjustment for you.

… if not, then you can just tell them that you do not want it anymore and get a full refund, which might make them let you do the price adjustment.

you sure that that particular location is not participating in Black Friday?
… that would be odd.

if they said they won’t do price adjustments and they have confirmed that they are NOT participating in Black Friday, then maybe you should not buy it from them.

if they are participating in Black Friday, then just buy it and don’t open it and come back on BF. Then if they do not do the price adjustment, then do a return on the item… it would get re-stocked, and then purchase it immediately to get the BF price.

you are not risking anything by trying it.

if worst comes to worst, just returned it (unopened) for a full refund… no harm done.

that has never happened to me.. because I am very insistent to speak to the manager if that happens.

and the store manager knows to not turn away a buyer, especially if they [the store] knows that they will have to sit on that item if you are the only person that wants to buy it.

… but if they are just going to re-stock it, you have the right to get it if you are already there.

Just go for it… don’t let up until the very end.
