Retro Games – Resurrection and Success

I’ve noticed a new surge in interest of retro games so we have two things to talk about. The most recent was Google’s remake of the familiar Pacman it was awesome. It is fully programmed in java and with a special Google layout. There are even articles out there about how much more time people wasted at Goggles’ site instead of working which was about 36 seconds additional to the usual amount. That is over 4 million man hours and over $120 million dollars lost to the economy.

I assure you I wasted more, much more. Its worse with Gophn behind you saying, “I saw that one coming.” Get to level 256 for a special surprise also in the original game. It’s still downloadable some places and I definitely recommend trying it especially if you never beat the original.
If I ever wanted to remake a game I’d have to be very incredibly bored or have a rare idea. I don’t know what caused explodingRabbit to make Super Mario Crossover, but its mind shatteringly awesome. A new twist to an epic classic is that there are 5 characters in addition to Mario that are usable in this flash game. There is even an announcement for a new character, Ryu Hayabusa of Ninja Gaiden, in an upcoming version

I recommend everyone try it out. Using Samus who stuns everything is so unfair, but Mega Man is my favorite despite some glaring weaknesses. It totally resolved for me if Link could have saved the Princess of Mushroom Kingdom better than a chubby plumber could. Recently there have been so many retro gems out there its nice for old fans to have a new spin on old classics and new people to see what we loved way back when.
On a side note for anyone who wants a controller compatible with this flash game you can get a free program called “Joy2key”for that old school feel. It’s free Google it or go search it on SourceForge. It lets you map a keyboard key to a gamepad/joystick button you have on your pc. If you have enough buttons you could use it to type or you could just get more game pads.
