TETRIS – 25th Anniversary – Gophn.com Tournament?

Who hasn’t heard or even played Tetris?
How and why was this game created?
And why is Google even giving this game such an honor?
Well, it’s ….. TETRIS’s 25th Birthday !! 
Today is the anniversary of one of the most legendary games of all time, which has become a staple in the puzzle genre for video games. Who would have thought that the combination of 4 squares (making 7 shapes) would become so popular as to become synonymous with the words “video game” to all people.
In 1984, a Russian student in Moscow by the name of Alexey Pajitnov programmed this game with inspiration of childhood puzzles and mathematical riddles. It was not a hit until 1986 that the game came to the IBM PC. But it did not gain its fame until it was released with the original Nintendo GameBoy… then a legend was born.
I have had nothing but good memories of Tetris, since it seemed to transcend languages, different people, different ages, and especially different genders… since I had admired so many female Tetris players that I have encountered through the years… one of which is my girlfriend (which is a fiend at Tetris when I play against her). 
I have been playing Tetris ever since I got it with my first GameBoy (the original version that started the handheld boom). It is the game that I have always known, it is the game that I always come back to, it is the game that I can relate to everyone with.
Many hours that I have killed (even during high school) playing Tetris [and its limitless clones on all systems/platforms] and never tired from trying to beat my previous best scores. I think I put in the most Tetris hours playing it on my TI (Texas Instruments) graphing calculator, as well as online with the ever so famous TeriNET.

- When? TBA (to be announced) soon…
- What? Tetris multiplayer tournament (last person standing / ladder / highest score)
- Who? Anyone can enter
- Where? you will be playing (or spectating) on your computer
- How? You will be playing/watching using a Tetris client (like TetriNET, Blocktrix, etc)
The why is apparent…. Tetris is a great game, and to honor its anniversary, we will be showing you why it has dominated as one of the all time greatest games (not just in the genre of puzzles).

3 yearss agoWell, with all the new political and force arangements that come with a status of forces agreement (SOFA), there isn’t a whole lot to do in Iraq anymore. As such, it has become a habit of mine to spend all my free hours playing the, although classic, but never boring, game of Tetris. My only complaint is that I most likely won’t be competing in the Tourny because of a complete lack of connectivity for a personal computer. I will be monitoring the scores however, and when the version of Tetris that is going to be used is released, you can bet i will be competing offline!

3 yearss agoI’m good at Tetris on my nintendo DS. Controls are better handheld… so I want to play but the controls on the computer are bad…
That Mario Tetris is also annoying. Incoming pieces show up as one way but are flipped when they appear. Really slows you down if you anticipate the blocks.

3 yearss agoI second the first part of Beersentes comment…I’m bored. I don’t know how my internet access is going to look like in the near future, so I might or might not be able to join.
3 yearss agoI’ll probably be using the TetriNET / BlockTrix setup.
I already have servers up and testing them now for stability and security.
If you want to brush up, download and play it… free and small downloads.
3 yearss ago… no need for the fastest internet, I was playing TetriNET with a 33.6K modem for the longest time.
Where can I download? I’ve been playing tetris online at tetrisfriends.com
I really doubt i’m playing against other players though…
But my concern is the controls. I’ve been getting used to playing it online, and on tetrisfriends.com the controls are as follows:
Up – Rotates piece
Down, left, right – down left right
C – Saves a piece/swaps with saved
Space bar – hard drop
Would the controls be similar? I mess up quite a few times because i’m trying to get used to these controls, so I don’t want to have another set of controls to get used to.
Also, the vs system sends lines of blocks at your opponent whenever you clear 2-4 lines I believe, so is it the same system?

did you read my Internet Security Guide?
I like COMODO… only the firewall though, its anti-virus still needs some maturing to catch up to other great free AV’s (Avira, AVG, Avast)
3 yearss agoI guess I didn’t read it as thoroughly as I should have :D. I must say the firewall doesn’t seem to let anything get by.
